Shopping and gelato

Image
Started the day with a workout with Jon Kotter and Ryan Merriman.  It was much slower than when I did the same workout 2 weeks ago.  I think it's because my legs are so tired from all the walking.  Including running and walking, I've been doing 30 something thousand steps a day.  Over 40,000 on two of the days.  I didn't realize how tired my legs would be from just walking around!  We had a good time though.  Everyone else left today.  Adrienne and I are staying one day longer than the others.  We have a small house in an upper level. We found a place doing games for the Olympics.  We did pistol shooting.  It was just a laser type.  We also did a race, but decided to not go any distance. We went to Notre Dame to look at how it's progressing since the fire.  Then, we just wandered around doing shopping and eating and sitting.  It was great!  I finished the day with some gelato again.  Coconut and chocol...

The Louvre

Great run with Lucas and Ryan Jones this morning.  Early! After that, we went to the Louvre.  We went straight to Mona Lisa because that's what everyone does.  It took about 10 minutes to get to the front to get a closer photo.  There was A LOT to see in there.  We spent about 3 hours.  I think my mum and sister would have spent 3 days there.  It was intersting and enjoyable the whole time though.  We even saw the soldier that died after running from Marathon to Athens (at least a sculpture of him dying).   This shop takes a photo of your iris as art.  It costs $99.  So, I just used my phone on Adrienne. We had a lot of good food today.  It was bakery day for nearly everything we ate.  I had lots of favourites! We also made it to the Arc de Triumph. Adrienne and I play a game where we race each other on stairs.  She always takes the stairs and I take the moving stairs.  She usually wins!

Wandering Through Monet's Masterpiece

Church was enjoyable with translation headsets.  Adrienne looked great in her Paris bike skirt thanks to Rebecca.  The elder that was translating had a nice clean British accent.  I leaned over to Adrienne and said, "He sounds like he's from Kent".  After the meeting, I went to meet him and asked where he was from.  You can guess his answer!  We visited for a while with him and Kenny.  It was fun to hear Kenny's thoughts about the race.  It's been incredible to see how well so many of our BYU runners have performed here.  Jared won the Marathon Pour Tout yesterday.  It was a marathon for anyone to do.  He went 2:24 and nobody was anywhere near him at the end.  Just a solid long run for him.  Fifteen minutes off his best time. After church, we went with Jen, her son, Anna, Scotty, and his wife to Giverny for the Monet Gardens.  It's where Claude Monet lived with his 10 children and wife.  A lot of his painti...

Marathon Race Day!

Got up at 5 for a run, then we ate eggs and headed to the course.  Adrienne and I and Lewis Jones family (he was on the team from around 2001) we assigned to the top of the final hill.  It was incredibly steep!  You can get details of the race in other ways, but at our spot, Conner was in 9th and Clayton was in 10th.  They were about 3 seconds apart.  We had so much fun cheering for them! It's been so enjoyable to see Conner and Clayton train for this with so much intent behind everything they did to prepare.  I'm so happy for them with their great attitudes and focus on family, friends, faith, and being whom they should be! After the race with Conner 8th and Clayton 9th, we went to lunch and then the Aquatic Centre to watch water polo.  After a very long walk to get to the entrance, we learned water polo is not in the Aquatic Centre.  We had a 45 minute train ride/walk to make it 15 minutes late.  We didn't miss much.  It was real...

Temple & Tower

Image
The day started with a long run with Lucas, Jon Kotter, Dave Rasmussen, and Ryan Merriman.  Lucas knows his way around really well and speaks French.  He took us to a park that we saw from the Eiffel Tower later on (big green forest area).  Here is a picture of it and picture of the run. We went to a session at the temple with Jared Ward this morning and Kylie Mantz and some of her family happened to be there for the same time. After that, we had a good lunch at a bakery (the chocolate eclair was really good).  We went up the Eiffel Tower!  After waiting 20 minutes to use the toilets before going up, we found ones with no line up the tower.  The views were amazing!  Adrienne made me walk out on a glass shelf.  That was scary. Pizza is really good here! After dinner, we met at the Olympic House to plan helping Conner and Clayton with splits and time gaps.
